Assessment of the Child with Autism
Many individuals with autism never receive a proper medical work-up. Physicians are often unaware of some of the best tests available because they are only offered through specialty labs and miss clues in the labs they do obtain because they have limited knowledge regarding their significance. Dr. Schneider will outline the importance of a detailed medical history, observations made on physical examination, and how this information guides decisions regarding laboratory testing. The tests most often indicated in children and adults with autism will be reviewed and treatment options that address abnormalities will be discussed. This lecture is designed to empower parents to advocate for proper testing for their child and ensure that every individual with autism receives appropriate care.
