P-cresol and indoxyl sulfate are two microbially-derived metabolites that many studies have found are significantly higher in urine of children with autism compared to typically-developing children.  These metabolites have many toxic effects on the body and brain, and cause autistic symptoms when administered to animals.  This presentation will summarize the effects of these metabolites on body and brain function and their relationship to autism.
